Portugal edge Ghana in thriller, Ronaldo sets World Cup record
Goncalo Ramos who replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting lineup for Portugal scored a hat-trick as the European champions began their World Cup campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ghana on Thursday
Ronaldo, who is playing in his fifth World Cup, came on as a substitute in the second half and scored a late penalty to become the first player to score in five different World Cups.
The match was a see-saw affair, with Ghana taking the lead through Andre Ayew in the 73rd minute, and Joao Felix equalizing eight minutes later for Portugal.
Ramos restored Portugal's lead in the 80th minute, and Rafael Leao made it 3-1 in the 89th minute.
Osman Bukari pulled one back for Ghana in the 90th minute, but it was not enough to prevent Portugal from claiming all three points.
The result leaves Portugal top of Group H with three points, while Ghana are bottom with no points.
